The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Korea celebrated Canada Day in Seoul on Sunday.

The event served up Canadian food and drinks to mark the country’s 145th birthday.

The celebration, in partnership with Canada Brand, was open for the public and also offered information on education and tourism in Canada.

“We partnered with two great restaurants from the Itaewon area, Sam Ryan’s and Chili King, to make this happen,” said Mike Weisbart, one of the organizers of the event.

Like most CanCham events, the fare was representative of Canada. Food including Canadian beef, maple syrup candy from Quebec and beer from Alberta helped draw hundreds to the outdoor event.

“It’s great to see Canada celebrating its birthday right here in Seoul and I’m glad they opened it to the public,” said Kim Jee-hae who was just passing by the event.

“We’re really trying to build the Canadian community here and I hope more Canadians will get involved with us,” said Weisbart.

Korea and Canada agreed to reopen free trade talks in June.

The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1963.
