Samsung Electronics will unveil the Galaxy S24 series featuring the company’s latest artificial intelligence model in Silicon Valley -- the home turf of its archrival, Apple -- this month.

Releasing the official invitation on Wednesday, the world’s largest smartphone maker said it will hold the Unpacked event for its flagship smartphone series in San Jose on Jan. 17.

The company said it will be “opening a new era of mobile AI” with the latest smartphone series.

“A revolutionary mobile experience is coming. Get ready to discover a new era full of possibilities with the latest Galaxy innovations, designed to transform how you live, connect and create,” the company said in the invitation.

“The new Galaxy S series will set a higher standard for the most intelligent mobile experience yet.”

While details have not been shared, the upcoming series is expected to be equipped with several AI features, including the Galaxy AI, which the tech giant presented in November last year.

The Galaxy AI for smartphones offers various benefits for users, with one of them being the AI Live Translate Call function aimed at eliminating language barriers among users.

The “personal translator” would offer real-time translation in phone calls, with audio and text translation appearing on the screen like closed-captioning for a livestreamed show, according to Samsung.

The new Galaxy S24 series is also expected to utilize the tech giant’s first generative AI model, Samsung Gauss, which will support the operation of Galaxy AI, the company said.

Among three of its main functions is Samsung Gauss Language, which is a generative language model that can be used to compose emails, summarize documents and translate content. Gauss Code will assist in software development for code descriptions and Gauss Image will generate and modify images.

Samsung is expected to supply some portion of the Galaxy S24 series with its own Exynos 2400 chipsets together with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip.

The handsets are tipped to feature aluminum frames and upgraded super AMOLED displays with a peak brightness of up to 2,600 nits. The Galaxy S24 Ultra will also likely come with a new S-Pen stylus.

The Unpacked event, set to be held at 10 a.m. local time, will be livestreamed on Samsung’s official websites and YouTube channel.
