조용필이 자신의 밴드인 “위대한 탄생”과 함께 올 8월에 있을 “슈퍼소닉 2013”에 출연하는 것으로 알려져 화제를 모으고 있다. 이는 올해로 63세를 맞이하는 한국 음악의 전설 조용필의 데뷔 이래 최초의 락 페스티벌 참여가 될 예정이다.
슈퍼소닉은 매년 여름 열리는 도심형 락 페스티벌로 올해는 8월 14일부터 15일까지 이틀 동안 서울 올림픽 공원에서 열린다.
홍보사인 포츈 엔터테인먼트 측에서 공개한 1차 출연 명단에 따르면 영국 팝 듀오 Pet Shop Boys 와 일렉트로닉 밴드 Two Door Cinema Club과 한국가수들로는 십센치(10치) 와 ‘슈퍼스타 K’ 시즌 4에서 준우승을 차지한 딕펑스가 함께 출연한다.
이날 조용필은 후배가수들과도 함께 무대를 가질 예정이다. 또한, 그는 출연료를 후배들이 더 좋은 무대에서 공연하도록 모두 기부할 예정이다.
조용필은 “이번 19집 앨범에 대한 대중들의 무한한 사랑과 관심에 대한 감사의 의미”라며 “도심에서 열리는 페스티벌인 만큼 다양한 음악 문화가 더욱 많은 분들께 전파됐으면 하는 바람 때문에 출연을 결정했다”고 설명했다.
이어 “지난달 23일 가졌던 19집 발매 기념 쇼케이스에 함께 해줬던 후배 뮤지션들은 물론 함께하지 못한 후배들과도 즐길 수 있는 자리라고 생각됐다”며 “여러 가지로 코드가 맞았다”고 덧붙였다.
한편, 한국갤럽이 실시한 설문조사에 따르면 조용필과 월드스타 싸이 중 조용필의 공연을 보고 싶은 사람들이 더 많은 것으로 나타났다. 갤럽은 지난달 29-30일, 이달 2일 등 3일간 전국 만 19세 이상 남녀 1천5명을 대상으로 최근 신곡들을 발표한 조용필과 싸이에 관한 전화설문 결과 ‘싸이, 조용필 중 누구의 공연 실황을 보고 싶은가’란 물음에 조용필이 53%, 싸이가 38%였다고 7일 밝혔다.

Fortune Entertainment unveiled the first line-up of “Supersonic 2013” on Tuesday which includes Cho as well as British pop duo Pet Shop Boys and the electronic band Two Door Cinema Club, and Korean artists 10cm and the semifinalist of “Superstar K4” DICKPUNKS. The annual event will take place Aug. 14-15 at Olympic Park in Seoul.
Cho, who will also perform with younger musicians, will also give back his fees to the festival organizer to provide better working conditions to younger artists. “It is to show appreciation for the love people have been giving me for my 19th album. Since this is an event that takes place in the middle of the city, I thought it would be great if a variety of music can be spread to more people,” Cho explained his decision.
“Also, I thought it will be a great opportunity to show my gratitude and have fun with the younger musicians including those who helped me with my showcase last month,” he added.
Meanwhile, a recent survey showed that more people would prefer to attend Cho’s concert over that of global star Psy.
In a survey of 1,005 adults in Korea asking, “Between Psy and Cho Yong-pil, whose live performance do you want to see?” 53 percent chose Cho while 38 opted for Psy, Gallup Korea announced Tuesday.
