헤비메탈 록 음악계의 전설적 그룹 메탈리카와 영국의 대표적 록그룹 뮤즈가 올 8월 내한 공연을 펼친다. 두 그룹이 참석하는 공연은 현대카드가 주최하는 “슈퍼콘서트 19 시티브레이크”로 잠실종합운동장에서 이틀 동안 펼쳐진다. 뮤즈가 하루 먼저인 17일 한국 팬들을 만나며 메탈리카가 18일 무대에 오를 예정이다.

이는 1998년과 2006년 두 차례에 이은 메탈리카의 7년만의 내한이며, 2010년 지산 밸리 록 페스티벌에 참가한 뮤즈에게는 다섯 번째 내한공연이다.

메탈리카는 1981년 첫 결성된 후 지난 30여 년간 록 음악계의 정상에서 흐름을 이끌고 있다. 첫 음반 “Kill‘em All”을 낸 이후 “Enter Sandman,” “One,” “Nothing Else Matters” 등 수많은 히트곡을 남겼다. 특히 “Nothing Else Matters”은 가수들뿐만 아니라 클래식 음악가 등 다양한 뮤지션들이 리메이크를 한바 있다. 이 그룹은 1991년 발매된 음반 “Metallica” 부터 2008년 “Death Magnetic”까지 5장의 음반이 연속으로 발매 첫 주 빌보드 음반 차트 1위에 올랐다. 현재까지 1억장이 넘는 음반 판매고를 올렸고, 2009년에는 “로큰롤 명예의전당”에 올랐다.

1994년 결성되었으며 영국 록을 대표하는 뮤즈 역시 최고의 밴드로 꼽힌다. 1999년부터 여섯 장의 정규 앨범과 세 개의 라이브 앨범을 발매했으며 “Time Is Running Out,” “Hysteria” 등을 히트시켰다. 1천500만장의 음반 판매고를 기록했다. 또한 지난해에는 런던 올림픽 공식 주제가인 “Survival”로 올림픽 폐막식 무대를 장식하기도 했다.

현대카드 관계자는 “메탈리카와 뮤즈는 헤비메탈과 브리티시록을 대표하는 세계 최고 밴드로 이번 콘서트 무대에 설 다른 뮤지션 라인업도 차례로 공개하겠다”고 밝혔다.

현대카드는 2007년부터 스티비원더, 마룬5, 비욘세, 레이디 가가 등의 공연을 성황리에 선보여왔다. 하지만 여러 가수들이 출연하는 음악 축제는 이번이 처음이다. 이번 “슈퍼 콘서트”에는 30개의 팀이 이틀에 걸쳐 공연을 펼칠 예정이다. 

한편, 현대카드 고객들은 특별히 오는 20일 정오부터 선예매가 가능하며 20%의 할인도 제공한다. 일반예매는 21일 정오에 인터파크를 통해 진행되며 현대카드로 결제할 시 20% 할인 혜택을 제공한다. 공연 티켓은 이틀 동안의 입장권으로 25만원이다.

이로써 올 여름에는 슈퍼콘서트를 비롯해 인천 펜타포트 록페스티벌, 지산월드락 페스티벌, 안산 밸리록페스티벌 등 대형 공연이 유례없이 많이 열리게 됐다.

현대카드 관계자는 이에 대해 “카드 브랜드를 알리기 위한 행사이며 수익을 남기는 사업이 아니다”라고 설명했다. (코리아 헤럴드/번역 서혜림)

Metallica and Muse to perform at ‘Super Concert’

American heavy metal band Metallica and English alternative rock band Muse will perform at Hyundai Card Super Concert 19 Citybreak in Seoul, the credit card company said on Wednesday. Muse will perform first on Aug. 17 followed by Metallica on Aug. 18.

It will be Metallica’s first appearance in Korea in seven years: The band visited the country in 1998 and 2006.

For Muse, the upcoming concert will mark the band’s fifth performance in Korea. Their most recent show here was at the 2010 Jisan Valley Rock Festival.

Metallica was formed in 1981 and has since dominated the metal scene for over 30 years. The band boasts numerous hit songs such as “Kill’em Al,l” from their first album, as well as “Enter Sandman,” “One,” and “Nothing Else Matters.” “Nothing Else Matters” has been covered by several different artists. Metallica has topped the Billboard chart with almost every album between 1991 release “Metallica” and 2008’s “Death Magnetic.” The band was inducted into the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” in 2009.

Formed in 1994, Muse has released six albums since 1999 along with three live albums. Their 2006 album “Black Holes and Revelations” earned the band a Mercury Prize nomination and third place on the 2006 NME Albums of the Year list. The group has sold about 15 million records, with hits such as “Time is Running Out” and “Hysteria.” It also performed at the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games.

“Metallica and Muse are the world’s greatest bands representing rock music,” an official from Hyundai Card said, adding that further line-up information for the festival at Jamsil Sports Complex would be released soon. “This event is to introduce our card brand, not to make a profit.”

Hyundai Card has held several much talked-about concerts since 2007, including Stevie Wonder, Maroon5, Beyonce and Lady Gaga. However, Hyundai Card Super Concert 19 Citybreak will be the first time the company presents a music festival featuring more than one artist. There will be 30 performances on stage over the two-day period.

Pre-reservation for Hyundai Card holders is available on May 20 starting at noon with a 20 percent discount. Hyundai Card said it had set aside 3,000 tickets for card holders. Regular sale of the remaining 18,000 tickets starts on May 21 at noon through Interpark. Those paying with Hyundai Card get a 20 percent discount. Tickets are 250,000 won for a two-day pass.

Meanwhile, several rock festivals will hit Korea this summer, including Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival, Jisan World Rock Festival and Ansan Valley Rock Festival.
